Sound Insulation Protects Human Health from the Threat of Noise Pollution
Noise Pollution Not Only Affects Quality of Life and Work Efficiency Negatively, but Also Triggers Health Issues.
On International Noise Awareness Day, established in 1996, attention is drawn to the harmful effects of noise pollution on hearing, health, and quality of life. Noise pollution in homes, workplaces, public service buildings, and production facilities not only adversely impacts quality of life and work productivity but also leads to various health problems. A comprehensive, meta-analysis-based study by Jinan University, published in the European Journal of Public Health, highlights the relationship between noise pollution and health issues such as hearing impairment, cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, neurological problems, and reproductive issues. Various scientific studies show that in Europe, noise pollution is responsible for 48,000 new cases of heart disease annually and disrupts the sleep of 6.5 million people. Properly executed sound insulation protects our work and living spaces from noise pollution, which is now recognized globally as a public health issue.
International Noise Awareness Day has been observed worldwide since 1996 to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of noise pollution on hearing, health, and quality of life. Recognized as a public health issue globally, noise pollution goes beyond merely affecting quality of life and work efficiency; it leads to various health issues. Tolga Ceylan, Sales and Marketing Manager at Eryap Group—the only 100% Turkish-owned brand in the insulation sector under Bonus Insulation—emphasizes that sound insulation and noise control are crucial not only for quality of life and work efficiency but also for human health.
Highlighting scientific research on the topic, Tolga Ceylan stated, “A comprehensive umbrella study conducted by Jinan University in China and published in the European Journal of Public Health in 2021 focuses on the link between noise pollution and various health problems. The research findings point to a relationship between noise pollution and health issues such as hearing impairment, cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, neurological problems, and reproductive issues. Properly implemented sound insulation applications are the best way to protect our work and living spaces from noise pollution.”
Noise Pollution Can Trigger Cardiovascular Disorders and Even Lead to Fatal Outcomes
The Jinan University study examined various international health publications, using meta-analysis and evaluation grading methods to explore the relationship between health issues and noise pollution. The findings, published in the European Journal of Public Health, indicate that high levels of noise pollution are associated with a 34% increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease and a 12% increase in the risk of death from cardiovascular diseases. Noise pollution is also associated with a 58-72% increase in high blood pressure, a 23% increase in diabetes risk, and a 22-43% increase in reproductive disorders. Additionally, dose-response relationships reveal that risks of diabetes, ischemic heart disease (IHD), cardiovascular mortality, stroke, anxiety, and depression rise with increased noise exposure. Furthermore, individuals exposed to workplace noise pollution have the highest risk increase of hearing loss, with a 6.68 times higher risk at speech frequencies and a 4.46 times higher risk at high frequencies.
Noise Pollution Leads to 648,000 Cases of Heart Disease Annually in Europe and Causes Sleep Disturbances for 6.5 Million People
According to an article in Harvard Medicine Magazine, heart disease, sleep disorders, and mental health issues are prominent among noise pollution-related health concerns. The article notes that scientific studies reveal noise pollution causes 48,000 new cases of heart disease annually in Europe and disrupts the sleep of 6.5 million people.
